Augustine Kofie, artiste américain de Los Angeles, présentera à partir du 27 Mars 2015 son exposition personnelle « OFF/GRID » à la David Bloch Gallery – Marrakech.
Le vernissage aura lieu en présence de l'artiste à la galerie le 27 Mars à partir de 19h.
L'exposition se poursuivra jusqu'au 26 Avril 2015.
L'artiste, actuellement en résidence à Marrakech, termine la production des œuvres.
La mise en place des installations in-situ ainsi que hors les murs débutera à partir de la semaine prochaine.
Augustine Kofie, American artist from Los Angeles, will present from March 27, 2015 his solo exhibition “OFF/GRID” at the David Bloch Gallery - Marrakech.
The opening will be held in the presence of the artist at the gallery on March 27 at 7:00 pm.
The exhibition will continue until April 26, 2015.
The artist, currently in residence in Marrakech, is finalising the production of the artworks.
The setting up of the in-situ's and outdoor's installations will begin next week.

OFF/GRID se réfère à la tension qui anime son travail: la juxtaposition, puis la synthèse de forces opposées. Cette tension opère sur différents niveaux.
En terme de style, vintage et futuriste se confrontent et fusionnent.
En terme de composition pure, les formes et les lignes, tout d'abord construites selon un canevas strict, s'affranchissent par la suite, jouant sur un inclinaison, se déplaçant hors du modèle établi, dans une expérimentation libre et improvisée.
En terme de techniques, ses collages de packagings industriels et fournitures de bureau datant des années 50 aux années 80 se transmuent dans un rendu contemporain par l'ajout de peinture.
OFF/GRID refers to the tension that animates his work: the juxtaposition, and then synthesis, of opposing forces. This tension operates at a number of levels.
In the arena of style, the vintage and the futurist collide.
In the arena of formal composition, shapes and lines are built within a strict grid format but then break from this grid, playing off a tilt, shifting off of the established pattern, in an improvisational, freestyle experimentation.
In the arena of medium, a collage technique using industrial packaging and office supply materials from the 1950s to the 1980s is filtered—rendered contemporary—through painting.

Kofie prépare son travail tel un constructeur - un architecte ou un ingénieur – un dessinateur et non un peintre, faisant des croquis préliminaires, en deux dimensions d'une structure, qui ne sera jamais construite.
Cela produit un sentiment temporel paradoxal : la structure existe simultanément dans un avenir qui n'aura jamais lieu, tout en renvoyant à un passé déjà oublié.
OFF/GRID fait référence à cette temporalité irrationnelle, une vision oscillante entre passé et futur, une inclinaison hors de la grille du temps.
There is the constructivism of the work, which Kofie approaches like a builder—an architect or engineer—a draftsman, not a painter, making preliminary, two-dimensional sketches of a structure, but one which will never be built.
This produces a paradoxical sense of time: the structure simultaneously exists in a future that will never take place, while referring back to a past that has been forgotten.
OFF/GRID refers to this sci-fi temporality, a push and pull between past and future, a tilt off of the grid of time.
OFF/GRID repousse les limites de cette exploration toujours plus loin grâce au dialogue créé par son contexte marocain.
Kofie explorera la notion de synthèse contradictoire par sa collaboration avec des artisans marocains, établissant ainsi une fusion entre leurs traditions artistiques et sa propre marque d'expression contemporaine américaine.
Le titre OFF/GRID renvoie donc aussi au fait que l'essence du travail de l'artiste prend naissance, pour cette exposition, hors de la grille de son milieu culturel habituel.
OFF/GRID pushes this ongoing exploration further, this time in dialogue with its context.
Kofie will be exploring oppositional synthesis by collaborating with craftsmen to produce work that merges established Moroccan artistic traditions with his own brand of American contemporary expression.
The title OFF/GRID therefore also refers to the way this body of work is made off the grid of Kofie’s usual cultural milieu.
